Squadron Activities

Ex TYPHOON SPIRIT

All DTUS Squadrons are very active and provide a range of activities to develop and enthuse the students, and prepare them for attendance at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, RAF College Cranwell and BRNC Dartmouth.

Training Evenings

Training evenings take place once a week during term time (excluding exam periods) and students undertake basic military training and leadership development. This includes first aid, navigation, fieldcraft, practical problem solving, mess life and battlefield physical training to name but a few.

Military Exercises

Exercises take place throughout the year at weekends, and cadets are only expected to take part in one weekend exercise per term. The Exercises are designed to train and develop skills essential for Officer Training. The exercises involve living in the field and emphasis is placed on self reliance.

Physical Training

The Squadron provides 3 morning physical training sessions per week to help the students maintain or improve their fitness levels. Attendance is voluntary but those who do attend find great value in the sessions.

Placements and Attachments During Vacation

Placements and attachments are provided by the Army, Navy and RAF at regular serving units, this gives real first hand experience of life in a military unit; some attachments take place overseas in Germany, Cyprus, The Falkland Islands, Canada and Belize. Officer Cadets also get plenty of time away on Adventure Training Exercises and Leave during the Universities vacation period.
