Who Are We?
Typhoon Squadron is part of The Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS)
DTUS is for those who wish to be a future Technical Officer in either the Armed Forces or Civil Service. Students on the DTUS are sponsored to read engineering or technically orientated degrees at one of the partner DTUS Universities. Currently these are Loughborough, Aston, Birmingham, Newcastle, Northumbria or Southampton University. Each has an attached support unit, Typhoon being one of them.
Typhoon Squadron provides students with opportunities for personal development and adventure whilst supporting them in their work towards gaining an accredited technical degree at one of the most prestigious universities in the UK.
In order to enthuse the undergraduates in their chosen Service, DTUS places a great deal of importance on military and civillian attachments; these can be both at home and abroad. Recent attachments have included the US Naval Academy Annapolis, BATUS Canada, Belize and various attachments with the Army in Germany and Cyprus.
Every year Adventurous Training expeditions are organised by students to UK and overseas locations to develop their organisational and leadership skills in an unfamiliar environment. Destinations have included Tanzania, Thailand, Peru and Chile to name but a few.
Regular Squadron activities include moutaineering, parachuting, hill walking, scuba diving and many others.
